How fitting I came across Newsong’s Sheltering Tree album the other day. It’s been such a “Pray for me”, “I’ll pray for you” season. Seems like each day comes with one more trial to face, one more friend hit with a staggering blow, one more hardship that begs to be covered in prayer. Definitely a time for sheltering trees: “friends in our lives who’ll get down on their knees and lift us up before the king of kings.” (lyrics from Sheltering Tree)
Doesn’t it make you feel so much better when you know someone is praying for you? Same when you whisper your own prayer for another? Yes, the best kind of friend is a praying friend. The ones who will step in the gap and bring whatever we need or are going through before our heavenly Father. Who bend their knees and knock on heaven’s door. And don’t stop until they hear Him answer. Which He does every time.
Because each and every prayer is a mighty powerful thing:
The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. ~ James 5:16
Our prayers penetrate the heavens and move the very heart of God. He delights in hearing from us. When we talk alone with Him and when friends pray together. Whether we’re in a tiny room or a cathedral… the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their prayer. ~ 1 Peter 3:12 . It’s never too late or too early. So, is there something you’d like me to pray for here and now? Let me know in the comments and I’ll be sure to lift your petition up to the king of kings.
I enjoyed listening to Sheltering Trees again. The music and the lyrics got me going on the joy and privilege to pray and be prayed for like “sheltering trees.” Thought you might appreciate and enjoy hearing it too.
