That’s Why I Love You!

I never dreamed the desire to tell the angel of my heart that, for all his many wonderful qualities and ‘cover of GQ’ good looks, “I love you because you’re you!” would turn into my most popular blog post – by far! Almost four years later it remains the all-time most viewed and continues to be shared. So, with love to the sweetheart who inspired it, and for those of you who want to tell someone special “why I love you” I’m continuing the tradition of sharing the fully customizable poem that started it all on Valentine’s Day… with an extra romantic verse added on this special day celebrating love.

Why I Love You

You are very good-looking
but I don’t love you for your looks.

You are super smart
but I don’t love you for your brains.

You are creative and brilliant too
but I don’t love you because you are a genius.

You are sweet, sensitive, and compassionate
but I don’t love you for your tender heart.

I’ve never known you to say “no” to anything anyone asked of you
but I don’t love you for your goodness or generosity.

You are gracious and diplomatic
but I don’t love you because you have a way with words.

You have an irresistible sense of humour
but I don’t love you because you make me laugh.

You are a lot of fun to be with
but I don’t love you because you’re such great company.

You have strong arms that have drawn me close to your heart
but I don’t love you because you take my breath away

Why do I love you?

I love you for no reason at all.

I love you because you’re you!

Why do I love you?   ♥     No reason.   ♥     I just do.

Thank you for being my inspiration…

I have a brand new post in the works for this week, but being the beginning of a new year and all, I thought you might appreciate re-visiting my most-viewed post in 2014. I get teary-eyed every time I read it and recall the remarkable people who have touched my life in powerful and beautiful ways. Perhaps you will see someone who has inspired you in this thank you letter. Maybe even be uplifted and blessed by words found here that take you back to heart-warming memories.

You’d think it would be a piece of cake to write about who inspires me for this week’s Coffee for Your Heart prompt. I spent many joy-filled, touching moments in the last few days remembering the people who have made a difference in my life. Strong, courageous, loving family members, friends, and even people I’ve never met. I could name them all for you, or tell a story or two. But what I really wanted to say was something that would speak meaning for you. Something you could relate to so those who have influenced me would strike a chord in you. So I’m sharing this composite thank you letter that encompasses how all those ‘inspirationeers’ blueprinted the specs my life is built on.

Who Inspires Me - Coffee for Your Heart - Holley Gerth

I thank God you were there when I was growing up. Your words were few but your smile said it all. You knew pain, sacrifice, and loss yet you were always filled with joy. Your health was weak but your heart stayed strong and generous. No one ever heard you say an unkind word or complain. I loved how you made me laugh and lifted me up with your steady faith. I wonder if you realized how much I wanted to be like you. I hope so. Being like you is my dream come true.

You were my hero the way you courageously battled against the vicious disease that marked your days with pain and suffering. Sleeplessness and weakness never left your side. But you carried it all with grace filled with love. Your body began to shut down but your heart continued to beat powerfully, always thinking about taking care of others. Thank you for holding my hand, bringing joy to my life, and the inspiration I will carry on because of you.

Your life has been riddled in tragedy, loss, challenges. Who could blame you if were cynical, hardened or miserable?  Instead, you turned every drop of adversity into a continuous stream of overflowing compassion. Though there were dark clouds hovering over your circumstances, you always spotted the bright side and were a guiding light to others. Your faith, courage, strength and love have uplifted and inspired everyone in your circle. Your friendship stood as solid rock during shaky times. Thank you that we could always count on you being there.

Thanks for touching my life and inspiring me with your love and generosity, your dedication to your family, for not giving up, for every kind and encouraging word, for wisdom, for your selflessness; for courageously blazing past set-backs and pushing beyond the boundaries of what’s possible. Because of who you are, I have become a better me. Thank you with all my heart!

Spring It!

A big bad day is no match for the hero of your life story!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! What a lousy day! So bad it knocks the wind out of the worst nightmare imaginable. You wish you could just rip that page right our of your lifestory. But, you know what, the story of your life would not be complete without it. If it were left out, part of who you are would be missing.  Hang on. What happened on that page, and more importantly, what happens to you because of it weaves the plot of an amazing story. You get to be the hero who takes in every word, action, and deed of that day and set them into a thrilling page-turner for everyone who shares your story. Line by line, one chapter at a time.

Life will bring you twists and turns. Pages covered with suspense, drama, tragedy, comedy, romance, triumph. The hero gets in trouble, makes mistakes, gets chewed out, is handed pink slips, denied opportunities, kicked in the teeth, broken heart, broken promises, broken dreams. No health. No money. No love. Enough pages of bad days to fill a book. But that’s not the end of the story. Sure, take the time to read over the details of those hard days. Highlight the lessons learned, underscore how it developed your character, circle the good stuff and then flip the page to start again from the top. Keep writing. Keep living. Keep giving. Let love have the last word in your life’s story and watch for the happy ending waiting for you in THE END.

If you’ve come here looking for what to say when someone is having a hard day or are among those I know and love, here’s a little #CoffeeforYour Heart that pours us all on the same page.

I will Always Be There for You - for Coffee for Your Heart Holley Gerth Series

If you’ve had a bad day and you need to be by yourself for a bit to sort things out. You’ve got it. Want to talk and tell me all about it. I’m listening. Need to hear that I love you? Oh, yes. With all my heart. Do you want a big bear hug? I’ll hold you tight with all my might. Looking for a solution, an opinion, or a few good ideas? Just ask and I’ll give you all I’ve got. Long to know it’s going to be okay? I believe it will. And I believe in you. Do you need to be reminded of  your gifts and loveableness? Sit down. I have plenty to list and it may take a while.

Whatever it takes. Anything at all. I will always be there for you.  Promise.
